The Light Within

 

Is a revisit of a sculpture I built in 2016 called ‘Reactor’. Building Reactor was a pivotal point in my journey as a sculpture artist. Building Reactor and moving it to Nevada was a huge undertaking that gave me strength and confidence to pursue greater dreams. The unraveling helical shape twisting towards the sky represents a harmony between human and nature. 

 

During the 2020 pandemic Lakeview Community Partners commissioned ‘The Light Within’ as the first permanent piece to a new sprawling community on the shores of Lake Ontario. Built in an era where society was growing more polarized every day by politics, conspiracy theories and race. The Light Within is meant to symbolize unity through diversity and that by choosing the light we are stronger together. Built of aluminium The Light Within will continue to shine even during dark times. Singling that as a community we must bind together and seek the light during dark times. The Light Withins’ branches are poised strong and fierce while delicate and beautiful. It’s stance represents mutual empowerment to inspire a future community.
